We are seeking a data scientist with a strong background in insurance analytics and actuarial principles to support our medical malpractice claims team. The ideal candidate will analyze litigation trends, develop models for negotiation tactics and trial outcomes, and provide data-driven insights to optimize claims handling and legal strategies. This role requires a mix of technical expertise, actuarial understanding, and strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with attorneys, claims professionals, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop models to support negotiation tactics, assess trial outcomes, and optimize file assignments based on historical litigation data.
- Provide data-driven evidence to support litigation strategies to utilize individual suits, including trend analysis, benchmarking, and anomaly detection for negotiations and trials.
- Identify emerging trends and outliers in medical malpractice claims, offering actionable insights and recommendations to mitigate risk and optimize claims handling.
- Analyze and generate actionable insights from legal billing data to monitor law firm performance and identify opportunities for efficiency and cost reduction.
- Leverage AI and machine learning to enhance file assignment strategies and optimize caseload distribution across the claims department.
- Work closely with claims analysts, attorneys, and the negotiation team to ensure data insights are effectively leveraged in decision-making.
- Ensure accuracy in data extraction, transformation, and reporting through the company’s data warehouse and analytics tools.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a data science role, preferably within the insurance or litigation analytics space.
- Actuarial experience (at least some coursework and passed actuarial exams preferred).
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and machine learning.
- Advanced proficiency with MS Excel.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Qlik Sense, Power BI).
- Experience researching, gathering, and cleansing data from multiple sources.
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for presenting findings to legal and claims teams.
- Ability to work collaboratively and translate complex data insights into actionable business strategies.
